Pews News – 13 January 2019

  1. Welcome to the kirk – and a special welcome to Mairi Leach who is playing the organ at Stenton. Today we celebrate the baptism of Christ. May the peace of God go with you!
  2. Coffee is served after morning worship at Stenton and from 10-15am in the Stables, Prestonkirk.
  3. Flowers have been arranged by Angie Simpson  (Stenton) and Jane Curran (Prestonkirk). Our readers are James/Barbara Wyllie (Stenton) and Joyce Patrick  (Prestonkirk).
  4. Children are always welcome to worship with us. At Stenton, there is an activity for the children after the children’s address. At Prestonkirk, children over three are invited to attend the Sunday School in the Stables after the second hymn.  Crèche in the Smeaton Room.
  5. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated after morning worship  at  Stenton and Prestonkirk.
  6. The 4U Group meets in the Stables at 12-15pm today.
  7. The J-Team continues on Wednesday  in the Village Hall, Stenton at 4pm – ‘Telling Tales 11 – The Baptism of Jesus’.
  8. Next Sunday, the 4U Group is organising a Bake  Stall in the Stables after morning worship at Prestonkirk to raise much needed funds for the Winter Night Shelter at Bethany Christian Trust. It costs £21 per bed space or £260,000 per winter!
  9. The Guild meets on Tuesday 22 January at 2-15pm  in the Stables. Chita Campbell will be talking about ‘The Butterfly Foundation’.
  10. The Community Bible Experience begins in February and runs for eight weeks. To date, we have four reading  groups. The minister is gathering together a group of people who would be interested in reading the first portion of the Old Testament and meeting every Thursday in February and March  5-6pm in the Stables. If you would like to join him, please come to the Stables on Thursday  7 February at 5pm for your copy of the Old Testament.
